Etsu Handcarfted gin turns out to be round and balanced with citrus notes. It is one of the first Japanese gin on the market. It received a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirit competition in 2018. The main ingredients are green bitter orange peel, coriander, licorice and angelica root. They macerate for more than 24 hours in neutral cane alcohol distilled using a gooseneck copper still at 83% vol. The distillate is then diluted to 43% vol with water from the Taisetsu Mountains and filtered through charcoal for optimum purity. It has a floral and vegetal nose, with hints of yuzu. The palate is fresh and balanced, peppery with notes of green tea and berries. It has a Sansho pepper finish with flavors of yuzu. Etsu gins are made on the island of Hokkaido in Japan, a winter holiday destination very famous for its snow-rich winter. The gins are handcrafted with passion. The Japanese term “Etsu” means “pleasure”, which is what you can expect when tasting Etsu gins. It is the Asahikawa distillery that developed this unique gin on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan.
