The Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 Whiskey has delicate floral aromas and gourmet notes of vanilla and honey. it is refined and complex with successive notes of ripe fruit, cereals and oak. The finish is iodine with notes of charred oak, fudge and brown sugar. This whiskey is made from barley grown exclusively on the island of Islay. Barley comes from 8 farms identified and mentioned on the label (Coull, Rockside, Sunderland, Island, Mulindry, Starchmill, Cruach and Dunlossit). It is distilled from 4 varieties of barley: Concerto, Oxbridge, Propino and Publican. Its distillation is slow in a still dating from the Victorian era (late 19th century). It has an aging of at least 8 years in 75% 1st fill American whiskey barrels and 25% 2nd fill French wine barrels. It is an unpeated single malt, distilled, aged and bottled on the Isle of Islay. It is an unfiltered whiskey without cold and without the addition of caramel or coloring. In 2020, only 2 of the 9 distilleries on the island of Islay are working with local farms to offer whiskey made from barley grown exclusively on the Isle of Islay.
