The black barrel rum is aptly named because it has been refined in deeply calcined barrels (bousinés), having previously contained bourbon, to extract maximum spicy and woody flavors.
Mount Gay Rum would be the oldest distillery in the world, at least that's what Christie's says by selling the oldest bottles of rum in the world, dating back to 1780! Mount Gay would have started the first distillations around 1667.
