WHISKEY Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 2013 Peated Islay 50 ° 70 cl
€92.93 L
The 2013 Port Charlotte Whiskey is a peaty whiskey.
Its nose has a smoky and earthy scent with tar accents that leaves no room for doubt. We guess the lemon, peach and grapes. Vanilla pods, coconut cream and chocolate are then introduced through aging in American oak casks. A few minutes of rest allow aromas of lemon cake, white chocolate and peach yoghurt to reveal themselves, enveloped by a light touch of smoke, like a velvet blanket.
Then, in the mouth, iodized notes will take you to the Atlantic coast. The dry smoke of peat, caramel and applesauce dominate the tasting. The lemon berlingots and the nonsense of Cambrai reveal their greedy and mischievous perfume, balanced by the sharpness of ground white pepper. The peat smoke is light on the palate, its phenols are not medicinal, they are reminiscent of coal and tar. As you approach the final, the spirit is softer and lighter, it releases a refreshing sea breeze and floral. The sweetness of oak and barley goes perfectly with dry peat smoke.
The finish is splendid, the fire of peat and tar meets salty spray, coconut and tobacco. The smoky notes will transport you to a wild beach of Islay, at the corner of a driftwood fire.
Port Charlotte reinvents its range and packaging in 2018. Always made from 100% barley from 3 farms (Dunlossit, Kilchiaran and Sunderland) and spring water from Islay, this edition aptly named "Islay Barley" Is an ultra-peat single malt (40 ppm). Distilled in 2011 from barley harvested in 2010, it is then aged on Islay 75% in barrels of American whiskey first filling and 25% in casks of Merlot and Syrah of second filling. The new packaging of the Port Charlotte range in green glass bottles is a nod to the design of peated whiskey bottles produced by other Islay distilleries. However, the distillery is that its single malt is imagined, distilled, aged and bottled in Islay.
